Unbearable Joy

I try to forget there is no way
to make a day go slower. At this
very moment the heron is standing

in the river. The blue globes of the juniper
are dangling from the tree.
The water in the creek is up.

Everything is present tense,
passive verb. I am. You are.
We are here together and

there is nothing to do, nothing
to make but love and nowhere
to be but here, this very here

though even now the clouds
tumble on the invisible wind
and already I know that even

though it will be different
when we return I can’t get
back here fast enough.
