Oh Dear

Asking the proper question is the central action of transformation-in fairy tales, in analysis, and in individuation. The key question causes germination of consciousness. The properly shaped question always emanates from an essential curiosity about what stands behind. Questions are the keys that cause the secret doors of the psyche to swing open.
—Clarissa Pinkola Estes

If only I knew which question
to ask. When can I eat? That’s
always practical. But it seems

that the psyche would want something
more curious, something like “What is
the reason the wolf ate the hare?”

Or “Why did the light in the room
change to gold?” Or “Shall I give him
the crooked branch?” But I am

having trouble putting words
to the world, as if the questions
have decided to ask me how

and when and I don’t know,
I don’t, and the stars trill
all around and make their way

into morning.
