it’s been a downer this week
sickness in our house the baby
feverish tonight our lights all
at half mast a friend who recently
lost her long term love tells her grief
today after months of hiding behind
haikus and i fine myself unsteady
ground floor i’m on zigs and zags
as if foundation were a foreign word
things i thought were getting better
just got worse my song is long and
mournful i list to one side sinking
prayer is the old loud and unmindful
HELP! the one that in all my years of
yelping has never gone unanswered.

i hit my jackpot..167 points my
all-time high on Words With Friends
screaming  in the background
our resident hawk soars over
her eucalyptus nest home
we’re all here on this suburban Los Angeles
California Saturday afternoon
our empty bank account testifying to
a week of passion in Italy
should i care about the numbers
when we’re still flying
high on art in Firenze and
cappuccinos to live and buzz by?
in New York after customs
we  carried on our luggage overstuffed  with
a new understanding of a million
different ways SHE loves us
